About Us

Vision: To inspire social change by dismantling the root causes of environmental injustice.

Through community base building and leadership development, we seek to change the political and social landscape of the Inland Valley which includes Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
The work of CCAEJ consistently focuses on those most affected by environmental health hazards: low-income communities of color and immigrant families who live, work, learn and play closest to rail yards, industrial areas, toxic waste facilities, intermodal facilities, freeways, and other areas at greatest risk for environmental health hazards.

Mission: The Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice (CCAEJ) is a progressive equity-based organization that embodies hope, unites people y pueblos, to create intersectional solutions that transform communities “to bring people together to improve their social and natural environment.” Utilizing the lens of environmental health, we achieve regenerative change by developing resilient BIPOC intergenerational leadership, through the power of community base-building. Through strategic campaigns, we cultivate inclusive self-sustaining neighborhoods, where everyone can live, work, play, and thrive.

On Friday, April 29, 2022 it came to our attention that the lead contaminated Exide waste from Vernon, CA is being transported to Stringfellow in Jurupa Valley and other landfills across the United States in violation of Health and Safety regulations. R-NOW Community Meeting - Riverside, CA

Last week we joined the Riverside Neighbors Opposing Warehouses (R-NOW) meeting and listened to how community members felt about the proposed developments that would be surrounding their homes. Community members voiced their concerns regarding the influx of logistics infrastructure, destruction of natural spaces, and increase in dangerous traffic/pollution that would directly affect the community. We answered questions about public advocacy, assisted community members with drafting comments and broke down what they can expect when speaking publicly. CCAEJ cohosted an Earth Day celebration with Rialto Unified’s Alianza Latina! We spoke with families about the importance of combating Climate Change, what Environmental Justice is and why getting civically engaged is NECESSARY. We also toured Rialto Middle Schools garden and how students have designed and planted diverse native, vegetable and fruit plants. Rialto USD offers gardening and sustainability curriculums throughout their 29 K-12 schools! On Saturday, members of our staff had the privilege of joining TreePeople and fellow community members for a morning of planting trees in Riverside. Yesterday, members of our staff had the privilege of joining TreePeople for a morning of community BUILDING AND HEALING.
