DUMPING AT STRINGFELLOW

Over 250 companies and government agencies dumped toxic materials at Stringfellow. Over the seventeen years the site was in operation, 34 million gallons of waste were deposited (enough to fill 134 Olympic size swimming pools). Materials dumped there included lead, arsenic, trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachlorethylene (PCE), chlorinated biphenyl’s (PCBs), chloroform, DDT, and large amounts of sulfuric, nitric and hydrochloric acids. Leading polluters were Montrose Chemical Corporation, Rohr Industries Inc., General Steel and Wire Co., Morris Industries, Rockwell International, McDonnell Douglas Corp., the U.S. Air Force, General Electric Co., and Lockheed Corp.
